SCHOOL BUDGET WATCH 2009

• GREED RULES TEACHERS & ADMINISTRATORS UNIONS
• LAYOFF NOTICES SENT TO SCHOOL SYSTEM EMPLOYEES

The Superintendent needs to be held accountable for the mess that is our school system. Unfortunately his lack of leadership has allowed some of his lower level administrators to take shameful and misguided actions. The results of this long term adminstrative mess, some grammer schools are facing failure under No Child Left Behind next year. The children deserve much better from their school administrators. With a lack of leadership, poor management skills, avoidance of responsibility, lack of accountability and political game playing the fundamentals of education have long been neglected and our test scores prove that fact. The children are the only losers here.

The Teachers and Administrators unions, who have been feeding very well at the taxpayers trough for many many years, refuse to give any concessions. Being well fed has not improved education for our children. The trough is empty now and some people will probably lose their jobs because of the greed of the tenured members of their ranks. A small sacrifice by the many can keep everyone employed and in their homes in these tough times. Unfortunately the Teachers and Administrators unions keep asking for a tax increase to feed their wallets and could care less about those who will lose their jobs.

No tax increase is coming, wake up and smell the decaying school system.

Where is the accountability! Our high school is ranked 120 out of 174 high schools in the state.
Throwing money at teachers and administrators for years has NOT improved education.
Is it time for pay for performance? Maybe.

Email Superintendent Serio or call his office 468–3261 or 468–3262.
• Call your child’s principal and teacher.
Ask them why they need another raise when you can’t afford your mortgage.

ETV & STUDENT PARTNERS IN CABLE TV PRODUCTION

There are 15 students involved in the ETV project representing the Joseph Melillo Middle School, East Haven Academy, East Haven High School and home schooling. The next series of training at ETV will focus on promotional ideas, creating graphics and taping a show. The students have decided that their first cable TV show will be a town wide Talent Show.

Bringing together organizations with different needs but common goals is satisfying. Frances Foley, from Noisemakers Productions, recently facilitated the communication and collaboration between East Haven Public Access TV (ETV) and East Haven Youth Services Commission. In this instance Media Can Make the Difference in the lives and futures of the young people who take part in this project.

Frances Foley was the East Haven Person of the Week in the East Haven Courier 4/23/09.

IBOE GOALS
To inform, inspire and motivate East Haven citizens to get involved and take actions to improve the quality of education for our children. To acheive this goal East Haven citizens needed timely, concise, high quality information concerning the issues and problems facing education in our town.
Noisemakers Productions fulfilled this community need by creating an interactive, multimedia website and independent video productions viewed on the internet at IBOE Videos.
